Hunky-Dory

At work, I am required to submit a weekly problem report. If any issues arise that affect my productivity, or I find any systemic problems, we make note and submit a form. Last week everything went smoothly. So instead of of not submitting a form, I filled one out and wrote “Everything is hunky-dory”.

Welp, it seems that has become an obsolete phrase, as the data entry clerk was unsure/uncomfortable with the saying, and I was questioned as to its meaning.

From Merriam-Webster

“This American-coined adjective has been around since the 1886, from the now-obsolete hunkey, "all right," which stems from the New York slang hunk, "in a safe position," and the Dutch root honk or "home." The origin of dory is unknown.”

It’s a phrase that simply means everything is going good.
