Swamp Goblins
Being that it’s Halloween weekend, I thought we could share our scary stories.
Some buildings just have an energy about them. One such place is a restaurant I worked at.
This building is a century old grain mill that was converted into a restaurant
I got an indication that something was different about this place right from the start. The second night I worked there, a couple employees were sitting at the bar after closing talking when all of a sudden a glass slid off the bar and shattered without anyone being near it. I thought maybe it was wet and that caused it. Trying to rationalize the event.
A few months later as we were preparing to open for dinner, the hostess came into the kitchen and said a lady in a red dress walked in and went upstairs without saying anything. We went and looked around and found nobody.
Another few months after that I pulled into the parking lot and saw the elderly cleaning lady sitting in her car. Normally she was working when I got there. She rolled down her window and gave me her key to the building. She said she was vacuuming and someone tapped her on the shoulder. She turned and nobody was there. So she went back to vacuuming. Then it happened again and she shut off the vacuum and walked out. She said she would never set foot in the building again.
Then another time I was prepping for dinner with the other chef. He was making a soup and involved in that for a few hours of prep/cooking. Upstairs was a small kitchen and banquet room. We would bake bread in a pizza oven up there. We baked frozen loafs, you would turn on the oven and put trays on top to rise as the oven heated up. I took the bread upstairs, being the first one up there I had to turn on the lights. One switch by the stairway and two more in the kitchen.
I went back 45 minutes later to put the bread in and noticed the stairway lights were off. It was so dark you couldn’t see. I figured the other guy must have shut them off being frugal or something. I go upstairs and the kitchen lights are off too. Weird. I was 99% certain my coworker hadn’t gone upstairs. I start brushing the loaves with butter and I noticed one of the two swinging doors was slightly moving back and forth. Like a gentle breeze was pushing it. It started to make me uneasy so I say out loud “if it’s a ghost moving the door, stop moving that one and make the other door move”. Sure enough the one door stops and the other starts to slightly swing.
I ran downstairs shitting my pants. I ask my coworker why he shut off all the lights. He angrily replied that he hadn’t left the kitchen in hours.
Have you heard or seen the creepy crawlers or things that go bump in the night?
